Orion helps Trane turn off lights

MANITOWOC — Orion Energy Systems announced Thursday it had installed lighting technology into a Georgia production facility of air conditioning manufacturer, Trane Corporation.

A money-saving measure for Trane will be the combination of Orion’s energy-efficient lights with a wireless control system allowing for the plant’s lighting to be grouped into different zones.

An Orion news release said because there was no easy way to control its lights, Trane management kept all the plant’s lights on for safety 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. With Orion technology, Trane now is able to turn off 90 percent of lighting in areas where it is not needed, with an expected annual savings of $32,000.

“In a competitive world that is increasingly demanding efficiency and economy, it is imperative to better control business expenditures,” said Neal Verfuerth, Orion president and CEO. “The energy costs surrounding industrial lighting can be dramatically lowered by implementing more advanced solutions. With the wireless INTELITE system, it is easy to have lights on when people need them and off when they do not.”

Energy efficiency also represents one of the quickest, cleanest and lowest cost solutions available to address this country’s growing energy and environmental challenges, Verfuerth said.
